1987 - Sherri Coale

The Oklahoman ranked OC alumna Sherri Coale No. 46 on its list of the greatest coaches and sports contributors in Oklahoma’s 100 years as a state.

The 1987 Oklahoma Christian graduate ranked 33rd among coaches on the Oklahoman’s list.

Coale, a member of OC’s Athletic Hall of Fame, has won five Big 12 regular-season championships and four Big 12 tournament titles as head coach of the University of Oklahoma women’s basketball team. She led the 2000-01 Sooners to the NCAA national championship game.

Academically, her team has posted 21 straight semesters with a combined GPA of 3.0 or better.

As a point guard for the Lady Eagles, Coale was an NAIA Academic All-American in 1987 after helping Oklahoma Christian win Sooner Athletic Conference championships in 1984, 1985 and 1986.

The Healdton, Okla., native coached Norman High School to two state championships before taking over the Sooners in 1996.
