On April 21, OC alumna, Jennifer Studebaker (92), was featured in an article in the Pampa News for being selected as the 2007 High School Teacher of the Year in Pampa, TX:

Jennifer Studebaker is the teacher receiving this honor at the high school. She has a social studies composite, but is currently just teaching freshman geography. This is her 12th year of teaching and all of those have been at Pampa High School. Both of her parents were teachers and education was instilled in her so she never thought about doing anything else for a profession.

“I love teaching this age of student and I especially love teaching geography,” Studebaker said. “I have a passion for geography and teaching kids about the world they live in. I would hope that all of my students could go visit other places in the United States or the world, but if they can’t do that then I want to teach them about other places and cultures.”

She said the students like knowing about other places when they are playing games or chatting online. A lot of time, they talk to people in other geographic areas and hopefully through her class they know where those places are.

Studebaker wishes the state would quit making changes to education and cutting the funding that schools receive. She wants to just focus on the kids and their learning. A goal that she has is for the whole community to take ownership of what is going on with the schools.

“I wish more businesses, churches and community members would get involved in the schools and activities,” Studebaker said. “I think this is getting better than it used to be, but I feel it could even be better.”

There are many moments that have validated why Studebaker is a teacher. Many students have come back to visit her and describe the places they have been and visited. When she sees the excitement in their face, she is happy to be a teacher.

Studebaker’s family is made up of husband John, daughter Jacie and son Jack.
