The Ugly Duckling

When you ask most fairy tale gurus they can tell you a story about a rather peculiar duck turning into a swan, but Oklahoma Christian University's theatre department will put a new spin on this classic fairy tale to open the theatre season. OC theatre will present The Ugly Duckling, one fairy tale that has nothing to do with ducks.

This fractured fairytale by A.A. Miline, the author of Winnie the Pooh, tells the story of Princess Camilla and her parents will for her to marry. The only problem is though that people may call her ‘plain' to her face they are calling her ‘ugly' behind her back. This adaptation of the traditional English pantomime is a charming and funny story of self-image and true love.

Performances will run at 7 p.m. on October 2-4 with a special matinee at 10:30 a.m. on October 3.

Assistant Professor of Communications, Barrett Huddleston, will direct. Huddleston received the Graduate Research Excellence Award from Oklahoma State University. He is also the book review editor for Ecumenic, A Journal of Theatre Performance. He published the articles “Hegemonic Hrosvit” and “Rising Image Performance Review” in the Baylor Journal of Theatre and Performance. He is a member of OSTCA, Association for Theatre in Higher Education, and he is a sponsor for Alpha Psi Omega, OC's theater honors society.

Tickets are $7 for general admission and $5 for the special matinee. For more information about this production or the upcoming season contact the OC Box Office at 405-425-5540.

Productions scheduled for the remainder of the theatre season include the “Ten-minute Play Competition”, Tartuffe and The Cover of Life.
