The Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants recognized Oklahoma Christian University’s accounting students as the best in the state for 2009-10. The students received a $5,000 grant for winning OSCPA’s Campus Competition. This is the third time in the last four years that Oklahoma Christian has taken the top award. The University of Tulsa won second place in this year’s contest. Eight universities across the state signed up to participate in the competition. The Campus Competition was created to make educators and students aware of the benefits and services the organization offers. Schools earn points throughout the year by participating in various activities and using resources offered by the OSCPA. Activities include inviting OSCPA fellow members or representatives to accounting or business club meetings, participating in recognition programs like Outstanding Accounting Student, linking to the OSCPA website and more. The competition is judged by the OSCPA’s liaisons with educational institutions committee. "Oklahoma Christian’s faculty advisor and students worked diligently to earn the most points for this year’s competition,” said Kiley Peters, communication coordinator for the OSCPA. "We congratulate them on a job well done.” According to Elaine Kelly, accounting professor and advisor for Oklahoma Christian’s accounting club, the students were focused on winning the top spot all year. "Our students worked very hard and really enjoyed interacting with the OSCPA,” Kelly said. "By performing so well each year, these students learn that the pursuit of excellence is essential in the field of accounting.” With more than 6,600 members in public practice, industry, government and education, the OSCPA is Oklahoma’s only statewide professional association of CPAs. Since 1918, the organization has continued to provide professional education, conduct quality reviews and promote and maintain high standards of integrity and competence within the accounting profession, as well as assist accounting educators and students.
