Help retire a seat in Hardeman Auditorium

Each year, the OC community celebrates the legacy of some legendary professor or administrator who is retiring after years of dedication to the cause of Christian education. Each year, we honor the many ways he or she has touched the lives of countless young people during his or her tenure at OC. And each year, we deny the opportunity to retire to a group of humble servants who have "touched" more students at OC than even our most beloved and storied professors.

An unwavering commitment to daily chapel attendance, appearance at every student event & commencement ceremony hosted in Hardeman Auditorium since 1993, and an uncanny ability to bounce back no matter how many times they’ve been sat on has made this group of a humble servants an inspiration to generations of students at Oklahoma Christian.

The unsung heroes of our story, the seats in Hardeman Auditorium, have been laboring away to support the students of Oklahoma Christian for over 16 years. In seat years, that puts them way past retirement age and yet no one has ever offered to throw them a retirement party. With your help, that's all about to change.

Recently a new and improved seat has arrived on campus direct from the factory to relieve one of our 1258 retirement-ready seats of its auditorium seating duties.  Lumpy, pictured above, was the first Hardeman Auditorium seat allowed to retire and he has already started living the good life. His days are now filled with traveling, gardening, golf, fishing, following his favorite NFL team, and spending time with his grandseats over at AMC Theater.

Although the retired life suits our friend Lumpy, he recently confided in a friend that his days, though full, are a bit lonely since leaving his friends in Hardeman Auditorium. Oklahoma Christian needs your help to let Lumpy’s friends and colleagues join him in retirement.

For every tax-deductible gift of $200.00 toward this effort, Oklahoma Christian will let one Hardeman Auditorium seat retire and replace it with a new one. With your help, we hope to retire all of the seats in Hardeman by next summer.

We've met some of the new seats who'll be joining the OC family once the rest of Lumpy's friends have retired, and they are just as humble as their predecessors. In fact, they're so humble, they're giving you the opportunity have your name or the name of a friend or loved one engraved on a plaque that will adorn their arms for life. It was a tough sell for the new seats, but we even convinced them to let you honor a former professor who made a difference in your life.

Participating in the Retire a Seat campaign is not only a great way to show appreciation to someone who's made a difference in your life, but you'll also leave a lasting mark on Hardeman Auditorium and Oklahoma Christian.  Did we mention that you’ll also be helping 1258 old seats retire and see the world after 16 thankless years of service?

Please help Lumpy's friends, the unsung heroes of Hardeman Auditorium, retire by making a donation to the Retire a Seat Campaign. Click here to make a secure online donation or contact Michael Mitchell at 405-425-5126 for more information.
